At my very core, I am a public servant, and I believe, like so many of you, that it’s time to put our values before partisan politics. Let’s treat South Carolina like the real treasure it is and take care of each other, not special interests.
We deserve to live in a state that provides more than a minimally adequate education. We deserve to live in a state that provides adequate healthcare for our impoverished citizens. We deserve to live in a state without crumbling roads.
I am someone who grew up in the true GA country, someone who knows what it means to struggle to make ends meet, someone who did not have much promise of upward mobility. However, by the grace of God & with the love & guidance of family, friends, & teachers, I stand before you today as the embodiment of the American Dream.
As a first generation college graduate, I have been blessed & allowed to fulfill my destiny to serve others & pay it forward. But let me be clear. Without the help of others, including our government, I would not be standing before you today.
Indeed, I believe our Government can serve to empower & embolden its people to dream big & reach their God-given potential. That's what I want to do more than anything; I want to inspire anyone who is downtrodden & discouraged to continue to dream.
If I can do it, so can you!
Unfortunately, our SC State Government has not always served as a beacon of hope but rather as a detractor to progress. I want to step up & work together, despite blind ideology or political party. We need to elect people, not a party, to improve education, healthcare, the economy, and, infrastructure.
I am Mary Geren, and I want to continue to do what I have always done, and that is to bravely fight for those who need a voice, the real treasure it is and take care of each other, not special interests.
