Sherene Hess is uniquely qualified for the job of commissioner of Indiana County, PA her home for more than two decades.
She gets things done.

• Developed an Indiana County manufacturer’s first comprehensive environmental compliance procedures more than 20 years ago
• Launched expansion of the county’s recycling center and first solid waste enforcement program
• Directed statewide Water Resources Education Network that benefited hundreds of Pennsylvania communities
• Helped farmers protect their land as a USDA natural resources specialist
• Has been a two-decade volunteer leader in her church and for other community causes

She takes a balanced approach.

• Led county’s nonpartisan League of Women Voters for 14 years, helping all voters make informed choices
• Examined complex issues critically important to Indiana County as part of local and state advisory boards
• Worked with lawmakers to develop effective and fair public policy.
She’s raising a family.
• First in her family to graduate from college (Penn State College of Agriculture, 1990); now has two sons in college and two in Indiana schools
• Married Mark Hess in 1992. An Indiana teacher and coach more than 30 years, he died in 2013.
