Yolanda Dortch-Amiker has dedicated her life to her community and country. Yolanda retired as a decorated combat veteran after serving 18 years honorably in the United States Army.

Yolanda saw the difference that personal attention to those in need can make when she served as Squad Leader at the Warrior Transition Command in Honolulu Hawaii, helping returning soldiers transition back into society.

Seeing a need for veterans to receive help upon returning home, Yolanda created a non-profit called Healing Is Power Foundation INC. ("HIP"), which has helped veterans get the support they need to address the pressure and difficulties of returning to civilian life.

Raised in Jersey City, Yolanda was dismayed by the conditions in Ward F when she returned to her hometown after serving in the Army. She felt the need to do something about crime, seemingly intractable unemployment, and neighborhood blight. She created "Shackles to Suits" to help ex-offenders obtain base levels skills to become employable. Yolanda currently serves on the Labor and Industry Committee of the local NAACP.

Today Yolanda begins the next chapter in her life of public service by running to serve as the next Ward F City Councilwoman. Along with Bill "Mats" Matsikoudis, Yolanda will ensure Ward F gets the same FOCUS that Downtown does.
